It was a snapping turtle, which is why I told Dawn I wasn't going to pick it up when she told me to move it off the road (she was afraid someone would run over it). To demonstrate this, I put my foot near it's head to give it a slight nudge and SNAP. It nipped the tip of my shoe. So Dawn, still worried someone would run over it, got a broom to try and nudge it off the road by gently touching it's tail. well, the turtle worked it's away around snapping each time the broom touched him. I told Dawn at that point...the turtle is on his own.
I came back in...Dawn stood near by and watched him walk back off the road...from the direction it came.

We get lost of those out here.
We get box turtles around these parts.
Those snappers are mean little cusses.
