The Carrie Prejean Sex Tape Controversy
Carrie is a drop dead gorgeous 22 year old conservative who, like Sarah Palin, has been demonized for her conservative values. Now, is beauty pageants the best place to espouse your views? No, as Carrie found out after her answer about gay marriage. The liberal types only want to hear from the bubble head "world peace" floozies.
Since being fired as Miss California, Carrie has made the rounds on the conservative talk circuit speaking out against pornography, gay marriage, and a host of other topics. During her lawsuit negotiations for discrimination with pageant officials, the existence of a solo x-rated video came to light. As a result, Carrie was given $100,000 to pay her legal fees - that's it, suit over.
Now, liberal kook bloggers are calling her a hypocrite. Why? Because of her "holier than thou attitude." Let's look at this a bit. The video was made for her boyfriend (at that time), and for private use when she was 17 years old. Since then, she has had a conversion. If the tape was made while she was out espousing family values, the word hypocrite would rightfully apply. However, having had a change of heart about things and speaking against them is what many Christians do...it does not make them ineligible to speak about them. Unless of course, you are a conservative. Liberals can do whatever they want. Remember Jesse Jackson counseling Bill Clinton on his extra-marital affairs - WHILE HE HIMSELF WAS HAVING ONE AND FATHERED A CHILD AS A RESULT. THAT is being a hypocrite. But Jesse got a pass for two reasons: He's black, and he's liberal.
When the existence of the tape was revealed, Carrie said it was the "Biggest Mistake of My Life." She did not deny it or run from it. She owned up to it. This does bring into light why girls send text pics and vids of themselves to boys not thinking that it could come back someday. She can with justification try to discourage other girls from doing what some idiot 17 year old girls do.
Carrie was to speak at a conservative "Defenders of the Family" event on Nov 6...but was dropped. Most likely because of this tape. I think it was the wrong call, and if it were up to me, would have been different. Cutting her out for a mistake of the past is just what the liberal left wants. If it had been recently WHILE she was speaking against things as I mentioned before - different story.
Carrie's past is past. It shouldn't stop her from being a conservative voice for what is right. And it shouldn't be other conservatives trying to stop her.

The fall of the wall
The evidence is there - but being ignored
Hasan, the sole suspect in the massacre of 13 fellow US soldiers in Texas, attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11 terrorists, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt. His mother's funeral was held there in May that year.
The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations.
Hasan's eyes "lit up" when he mentioned his deep respect for al-Awlaki's teachings, according to a fellow Muslim officer at the Fort Hood base in Texas, the scene of Thursday's horrific shooting spree.
As investigators look at Hasan's motives and mindset, his attendance at the mosque could be an important piece of the jigsaw. Al-Awlaki moved to Dar al-Hijrah as imam in January, 2001, from the west coast, and three months later the September 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour began attending his services. A third hijacker attended his services in California.
It's important we don't jump to conclusions though...

The Republican Rebound
Yes, the Dems picked up a House seat in NY. However, for a conservative candidate who has no political experience, and was unknown 30 days ago, receiving 45% of the vote (winner got 49%) is AMAZING. The lesson for the GOP is to run conservatives. The "Republican" the hierarchy chose was dead last in the polls, causing her to drop out - then endorse the Democrat who is more conservative than she is. So if the seat had to be won by a Dem, a "Blue Dog" is one you want. Keep in mind the seat is up for re-election one year from now...I'm sure a conservative can garner another 4-5 points in support by Nov 2010. He will be very mindful of how he casts his votes between now and then. The Dem that won in CA, replaced another Dem - no change.
New Jersey is a BLUE Blue state. Obama goes there 5 times in recent weeks and the Dem Governor loses by 5 points. Virginia, having just gone Blue last year, elected a Republican Governor by a 60% margin. Virginia is right across the Potomac from Washington DC. The counties there on the border had shallow support for the Dem. How did the republican win? He ran against Obama and big government. The Democrat ran against George W. Bush. Hmmm.
I consider myself a conservative who finds most of the politicians I support in the Republican Party. That does not make me a die hard Republican. If the party can realize that moderate - liberal Republicans cannot win (John McCain anyone?), it could have a good chance of picking up the 40 seats needed to gain control of the House by offering a true conservative alternative to the liberal agenda - sending Pelosi out as Speaker.
One year and counting to the mid terms....learn the lesson GOP.

Sour grapes
Republican Dede Scozzafava endorsed her former Democratic opponent Sunday in the race for an upstate New York congressional seat, shaking up the contest for the second day in a row after exiting the race Saturday.
Scozzafava dropped out after Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman experienced a late-in-the-game surge. The move was expected to consolidate GOP voters behind Hoffman on Tuesday.
But on Sunday, Scozzafava issued a written statement in which she backed Democrat Bill Owens.
"I am supporting Bill Owens for Congress and urge you to do the same," she said.
"In Bill Owens, I see a sense of duty and integrity that will guide him beyond political partisanship. He will be an independent voice devoted to doing what is right for New York. Bill understands this district and its people, and when he represents us in Congress he will put our interests first."
If he's that good, why were you running against him? Common sense shows this for what it really is - a woman scorned.

Where's the utopia?
Number Of Women Buying Handguns Increasing - (Chicago) Local gun shop owners say they're seeing an increase in the number of women shoppers right now. The reasons, they say, are many, including the downturn in the economy and violence on the street. According to the National Shooting Sports Foundation, about 48 percent of people taking their first handgun seminars this year happen to be women. CBS 2's Pamela Jones reports on the growing trend. "It's very dangerous out there. I mean, there's people getting robbed here and there," said Josie Santiago. "It's just for protection." Why is protection needed? Handgun ownership is illegal inside the city limits of Chicago. The state of Illinois is one of only 12 that does not allow concealed carry. Crime should be low...right? Oh that's right, such laws only affect the law abiding citizen. I mean really, if you were a street thug, where would you go to rob, rape, kill, etc? To the place where you know your victim cannot carry a gun.
Yet, having lived in the Chicago Metro area for 30 years, I assure you many people carry handguns at the risk of being hit with a Class B Felony for doing so - thus the increase in sales. The saying "I'd rather be judged by 12 than carried by 6" is the mantra. It's sad that the law abiding must face such a harsh penalty (perhaps harsher than what some hardcore criminals do) for taking steps in protecting their life. However, desperate times call for desperate measures.
At least Illinois' failed policies are stimulating the economy through gun sales.

THE GRATING COMMUNICATOR
The Obama administration has attacked Fox News in order to prevent government corruption stories broken on Fox from bleeding into the other media, which are all-consumed with daily updates on Levi Johnston's Playgirl spread and Carrie Prejean's breast implants.
That's understandable. But I think the administration should have picked someone other than David Axelrod to deliver the claim that Fox News is "not really news," inasmuch as Axelrod was behind the leak of scurrilous allegations in Jack Ryan's sealed divorce papers when he was running for a Senate seat against Obama. Talk about vicious personal gossip.
Now that Fox has been branded an untouchable, the teacher's-pet media are jubilant.
In Newsweek, Jacob Weisberg wrote a column saying liberals should refuse to appear on Fox News, pointedly concluding, "And no, I don't want to come on 'The O'Reilly Factor' to discuss it." Considering that Weisberg is a 107-pound weasel with a speech impediment, this is on the order of Weisberg's announcing that he's not interested in appearing in the next "Ocean's Eleven" movie with George Clooney.
The strangest thing about all the invective against Fox is that it is happening in a world that contains MSNBC. At least Fox News primetime hosts, and many of their guests, know something about politics. MSNBC's primetime lineup presents an array of people who sound like earnest college kids who just walked up to a Common Cause table, and the sum-total of what they know about politics is what they read in the brochures.

Signing off Sovereignty
On October 14, Lord Christopher Monckton gave a presentation in St. Paul, MN on the subject of global warming. In this 4-minute excerpt from his speech, he issues a dire warning to all Americans regarding the United Nations Climate Change Treaty that is scheduled to be signed in Copenhagen in December 2009.

Can it be...am I actually agreeing?
WASHINGTON (AP) - Pot-smoking patients or their sanctioned suppliers should not be targeted for federal prosecution in states that allow medical marijuana, prosecutors were told Monday in a new policy memo issued by the Justice Department. Under the policy spelled out in a three-page legal memo, federal prosecutors are being told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law.
The guidelines issued by the department do, however, make it clear that federal agents will go after people whose marijuana distribution goes beyond what is permitted under state law or use medical marijuana as a cover for other crimes.
The memo advises prosecutors they "should not focus federal resources in your states on individuals whose actions are in clear and unambiguous compliance with existing state laws providing for the medical use of marijuana."
The new policy is a significant departure from the Bush administration, which insisted it would continue to enforce federal anti-pot laws regardless of state codes.

Stepping back in time
It was great seeing faces from long (and not so long) ago.
We stopped at The Cross after checking out of our hotel Sunday morning:
